Born 1933 - Journalist and broadcaster.

Worked for a number of newspapers before moving into television. Presented several radio programmes including Today (1974-76) and Going Places (1977-81). Became well known as a film critic beginning with the television series Film ’73. Has made a number of documentaries including The Hollywood Greats and Talking Pictures. Won the Richard Dimbleby Award in 1981, made a CBE in 1998.
