Originally Jim Smith. Began as a comedian on the northern club circuit. Began in the Carry On films in 1963, best known for Carry On Cowboy (1965). Worked as a disc jockey, scriptwriter and songwriter winning an Oscar nomination for the song Georgy Girl (1966).
