Born 1804. Died 1865 - English economist and politician.
Wrote pamphlets preaching free trade and non-intervention. Founded the Anti Corn League in 1838 which played large part in abolition of the Corn Laws. Elected MP for West Riding. Opposed Crimean War and spoke strongly in favour of North during American Civil War.
