Educated at Manchester College of Technology. Designed aeroplanes including the Avro 504 trainer, the Baby (a light aircraft), Avain and Anson. Designed the Manchester and Lancaster heavy bombers during WWII. Designed the jet-propelled Tudor and Ashton. Killed in a test flight of the Tudor II prototype.
