Born 1716. Died 1772 - English engineer and canal builder.


Illiterate all of his life. Became engineer in 1752. Employed by Duke of Bridgewater to develop the canal between Worsley and Manchester. Completed the Birmingham, Chesterfield and other canals constructing 365 miles of canals in total.
