Born 1825. Died 1900 - English novelist.


Called to Bar in 1852 until poor health directed him to market gardening and literature. Published several collections of poetry. Wrote 15 novels including the classic Lorna Doone (1869). Other novels included Maid of Sker (1872) and Tommy Upmore (1884).
