1888 -1989 . English aircraft designer and sportsman.



In 1910 won Baron de Forest Prize for flying across English Channel. Founded Sopwith Aviation Company, built many aircraft used in WWI. Keen yachtsman, competing for America’s Cup in 1934. Knighted in 1953.
