Studied at New College, Oxford. Director of Bristol Old Vic and London Young Vic. Moved to television as writer and comedy actor. Well known in Not the Nine O’Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones. Films include Morons from Outer Space (1985) and Wilt (1989). Founded production company Talkback with Griff Rhys Jones.
