Tuesday 20th July 2010 Sidney the snail wins world title
A village fete in Norfolk was the unlikely setting for a world title bid on Sunday when 200 competitors turned out for the annual World Snail Racing Championship. Sidney, now considered a pedigree racing snail, trounced the rest of the field in the go-slow championship at Congham in Norfolk on Sunday. A top ‘speed’ of just 0.003mph over the 13-inch course laid out at the village fete, was enough for Sidney the snail to clinch the world title. He completed the course in a leisurely three minutes 41 seconds to claim the coveted World Snail Racing Championship title. Norfolk

Friday 27th November 2009 Tank driver makes an L of a mess
A soldier was forced to apologise to homeowners after destroying their
garden fence while driving a Spartan Armoured Personnel Carrier. The
eight-tonne armoured vehicle, complete with L plates, left the road in
the Norfolk village of Letheringsett.

The owners of the house, Phil and Jayne Jones, described the incident
to the press:

Mr Jones said: "We heard what sounded like a collision on the main
road involving a heavy goods vehicle. We ran around to investigate and
found a military vehicle sitting astride our fence."

The fence has already been repaired and Mr and Mrs Jones are in
discussion with the MOD’s insurers over compensation for the damage. Norfolk
