Wednesday 2nd March 2011 Worcestershire’s Morgan launches new three-wheeler
The Worcestershire based motor company Morgan has unveiled a new
three-wheeler sports car. Described by the company as a ‘fusion of old
and new’ the new model mates a Harley-Davidson V-twin engine to a
Mazda gearbox. The new car will be called the Morgan 3 Wheeler and
echoes the time between 1909 and 1953 when the company built around
30,000 three-wheeled machines. The car will be shown at the Geneva
Motor Show which runs between March 3 to 13. The head of Morgan
Motors, Charles Morgan, said the cost was partly inspired by the
rising costs of running a car. Worcestershire
Wednesday 2nd February 2011 Wyre Forest could be leased
Parts of the Wyre Forest could be leased privately under proposals for
the future of public forests in England, according to comments made by
a Worcestershire MP. With public outrage growing daily at the prospect
of public forests being sold off, Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest,
said he was "reassured" that forests could be locally run and would
not be sold. Government Ministers plan to transfer power from the
Forestry Commission, which owns 18% of British woodlands, to the
private sector. The Coalition government claim privatising the
woodlands will boost public control. A public consultation began last
week and a bill to enable the sale is due to go before the House of
Lords. Worcestershire
Friday 10th September 2010 Lack of rain delays canal opening
The opening of a historical canal in Worcestershire has been delayed
by the lack of rain. British Waterways restored the Barge Canal in
Droitwich as part of a £12.7m scheme to create a cruising ring around
Worcestershire but the cut could not be opened due to the low water
level. The canal has been out of use for 80 years. A spokesman said:
"We are monitoring the river levels every day and are just waiting for
it to rain." British Waterways said the way the canal is currently
filled was a temporary measure. When they open the Junction Canal in
2011, which completes the planned 21-mile (33.8km) cruising circuit,
the ring will then be fed by the big central reservoirs in Birmingham
and Worcestershire. Worcestershire
Tuesday 3rd November 2009 Author’s secret sauce story sourced from a skip
A former employee of the famous Worcester company Lea and Perrins
found his company’s secret sauce recipe in an old book in a skip. The
hand written notes, dating from the mid-1800s, were found by
accountant and archivist Brian Keogh who retired from the firm in
1991. Keogh wrote a book called The Secret Sauce and it seems he may
have used these notes as part of his research.
The late employee and author found the notes in a skip near to L&P’s
Midland Road site, according to the his daughter.
Keogh gathered many items connected with L&P prior to his death in
2006, aged 80. Worcester Museum is now working with his daughter
Bonnie Clifford to have his collection put on public display.
Worcester City Museums collections officer David Nash told the BBC:
"There has always been a lot of secrecy surrounding the recipes and
pride that it is made locally. It would be significant to the people
of Worcester and maybe even attract national interest if they are
proved to be genuine." Worcestershire
