Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula is 9 miles S.W of Clynnog Fawr on the A487. Nefyn has strong historical links and the Llyn Historical and Maritime museum based here. Housed in St Mary’s church with its distinctive, sailing ship, weathervane. Originally a fishing village, Nefyn was where Edward I celebrated his conquest of Wales in 1284 and the village was granted a royal charter by the Black Prince in 1355. This beautiful part of Wales attracts outdoor enthusiasts both for its coastal walks and beaches but golfers often choose to stay in Nefyn. The Caeau Capel hotel has concessions with seven different local courses, including the championship course at Royal St David’s. There are many fine alternatives to choose from. Plas Bodegroes between Nefyn & Pwllheli is a Michelin starred restaurant with rooms. So, a round of golf may well be needed to burn off the calories. Whilst visiting this area, make sure to climb Yr Eifl (the forks) for breathtaking views over Caernarfon Bay. This is also the site of Tre’r Ceiri (Town of Giants) one of the finest Iron Age forts in the country surrounded by a stone wall which once enclosed 150 huts.
