The village of Huby is perfectly located for those wanting to visit some of Yorkshire’s greatest attractions. The Dales are a short drive to the west, North York Moors closer still to the north, and the magnificent city of York just 11 miles south. York is one of the most visited cities in the country, its attractions including the railway museum and the Jorvik Viking experience, but offering great retail therapy and fine gastronomy too. Huby is a pretty village of some contrasts: there are tiny and characterful stone cottages, and a magnificent Victorian mansion - Burn Hall - now employed as a country house hotel. If busy York is not to your taste, three of the county’s great stately homes are within easy striking distance. Sutton Park is a fifteen minute stroll away, with a delightful fernery within its grounds, and important pottery collections in the 18th century hall. Beningborough Hall, another 18th century gem, is five miles distant, its exhibitions of portrait painting drawing visitors from all over the world. And Newburgh Priory is only seven miles away, with fine topiary and a celebrated water garden. Within Huby itself a little rest and relaxation can be had at the two pubs, The Star and The New Inn, especially justified after some walking in the pleasant countryside around the village, which though in easy reach of the A19 and the B1363, is far enough from both to let you forget the outside world.
