The Regency splendour of this elegant seaside town near the South Downs, is crammed with unusual shops especially ‘The Lanes’ with antiques and jewellery that will have you reaching for your wallet. The eclectic and cosmopolitan mix of venues to eat or drink in is unmatched. Time is needed to explore this area from the promenade that leads you to the Palace Pier opened in 1899, to the ‘Volks Railway’ which was the first public electric railway in the world opened in 1883, it whisks you along to Brighton Marina, with yachts, restaurants, shops cinema and bowling complex.
The town has many museums, one that’s worth a visit is Brighton Museum, showcasing paintings from ‘Old Masters’ dating back to the 15th Century. Of course no visit would be complete without seeing the strikingly impressive Royal Pavilion built in the 19th Century for Prince Regent, who later became King George 1V.
If you enjoy the races, choose from the Greyhound Stadium, or the hilltop Brighton Race course. If Norman/Saxon churches fascinate then visit St Helens Church majestically sitting at the top of a hill first parts were built in 1093 and is the oldest structure in Brighton or Hove.
