Events in Immingham | 10 Places to Stay
Immingham is a town on the south side of the Humber Estuary in Lincolnshire just six miles from Grimsby, and is famed for it’s deep water Dock, the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from Immingham to Holland, and there is a commemorative stone opposite the pretty church of St Andrew which dates back to Norman times. The Immingham Museum has an astounding array of railway memorabilia and interesting exhibits detailing the story and history of the building of the Docks, there is also a fascinating collection of local items, a small exhibit of the Pilgrim Fathers and even a recreation of a WW1 Trench that would have been used by soldiers.
Close by is Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse which was founded as a Priory and later in 1148 became an Abbey. The Gatehouse is 14th Century and ornate in it’s construction , inside there is a chance to explore the large rooms and smaller cells linked together with a network of passageways, the ruins may also be seen of the Chapter house. Or how about a visit to the National Fishing Heritage Museum, where the history of fishermen is shared , there is also an opportunity to take a tour on board a Trawler
