Events in Hook-Norton | 10 Places to Stay
Hook Norton is a village in north Oxfordshire, near the Warwickshire border, on the edge of the Cotswolds. It lies between the market towns of Banbury and Chipping Norton.
In the centre of the village is St Peter's Church, a largely 15th century church of Norman origins that features a 12th century chancel and an unusual 11th century font. The church also houses an 18th century hand-pumped fire engine.
Hook Norton has a village shop and post office, as well as a park and 4 good food pubs. It is particularly famed for the Hook Norton Brewery which is one of the last surviving Victorian breweries. Beer is still delivered in the village by horse drawn dray. The Brewery Visitors Centre is open on Saturdays and tours run Monday to Friday.
The village once had many thriving ironstone quarries, and nearby there was an ironstone mine. The railway that took away their product has gone, but tall stone pillars which supported two viaducts remain in the valley to the south of the village.
Hook Norton hosts an annual charitable music festival every July - Music at the Crossroads - at Ferris Hill Farm, located behind "The Gate Hangs High" Pub on Banbury Road.
