Cycling around Stratford upon Avon, Active Britain

Stratford on Avon is a great place to tour by cycle. Whether you wish to travel around town and take in the historic attractions including the Shakespeare houses or head out into the beautiful surrounding Cotswold countryside , either way you will love traveling around by bicycle.

Heading out of town, the Stratford Greenway is a 5 mile, disused railway line which Warwickshire County Council, in partnership with Sustrans have transformed into a traffic free foot/cycle way which is part of the National Cycle Network. It is the perfect way to see the Stratford countryside.
Starting at the Severn Meadows Car Park on the West side of town and heading out along the river, it follows the River Avon and the Racecourse and on towards the nearby villages of Long Marston and Welford on Avon. Both villages have good country pubs where to eat and drink.

Halfway along the route, about 2.5miles from Stratford, is the Milcote picnic site along with a refurbished railway carriage cafe. The Carriages5344 Cafe is ideally placed either as a stopping point to obtain refreshments or as a starting point for your journey.

Whether you wish to cycle for the day or spend a few days touring the area Stratford Bike Hire (www.stratfordbikehire.com.) can arrange your trip. With a range of adult bicycles, childrens bikes, trailer-bikes, child seats and infant trailers hire also included helmets, lock, repair kits and maps to get you on your way. Cycles are delivered to your home, hotel, campsite or your chosen starting point for your journey. Call 07711 776340 for hire.
