John Lennon

A working class hero is something to be; and John Lennon was and remains so. Born on October 9 1940 in the middle of an air raid Lennon didn’t own a guitar until 1957, but within a few years of that purchase he and his fellow Beatles had changed the world of music forever. Imagine no Beatles; no Beatlemania; no swinging London. Lennon’s irreverent humour made its mark, his “Bigger than Jesus” boast about the band getting them in hot water; his anti-war anti-Nixon stance too made waves, nearly seeing him deported from America. Maybe Lennon was not the nicest bloke ever; but what a creative force and what a life force.
