Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Football Club was formed in 1989 following the merger of the original Birmingham and Solihull Rugby Clubs, who had both been established for over 60 years. The team now plays under the name Pertemps Bees, following the securing of a sponsorship deal with a local recruitment firm, owned by a former Birmingham player.

Since the merger, the club has shown a great deal of ambition for its first XV, but has also sought to be a true community club for the City of Birmingham and the town of Solihull. A thriving junior and mini rugby section aims to look after the future of rugby in the area.

Pertemps Bees made the headlines with a highly successful Powergen Cup (now the EDF Energy Cup) run in 2004. The Bees met the Wasps in the quarter final and were 250-1 against beating the Guinness Premier team. Amazingly, the Bees overcame the odds and stung the Wasps 28-24 in one of the greatest sporting upsets in history. The Bees have struggled in the league since then however, avoiding relegation on one occasion only because of league expansion. In 2008 the Bees face a fight to retain National League Division One status once again.
