The three Strok's Restaurants are named after Goran Strok, a former Croatian racing driver who switched lanes to become a luxury hotel magnate. This Strok's is part of the Taplow House Hotel, a stunning Georgian retreat outside Windsor, and its use of the best British produce from the Buckinghamshire countryside has won it two AA rosettes. Overlooking the magnificent 6-acre grounds, the restaurant has the feel of an elegant country house but is refreshingly un-starchy. The focus is on classic dishes, perfectly cooked and imaginatively finished: goat's cheese ravioli is served on a Jerusalem artichoke and black truffle salad, while a mains of red mullet comes on a crabmeat risotto and is topped with shaved fennel salad and crab bisque sauce. Don't miss the sexy hot chocolate fondant for dessert. It's all beautifully presented and the service is attentive without being invasive.
