Conwy

Where Snowdonia meets the sea

The County of Conwy - a realm of rich heritage

The origins of this magical and mystical land date back thousands of years. Today you can take a fascinating journey through the rich stratas of history that have left their visible remains throughout the region.

Ancient cromlechs, megalithic burial chambers and mystic stone circles are all easily accessible and will give you a fascinating insight into the dawn of history. At the Great Orme in Llandudno you can explore the 4,000 year old copper mines of the Bronze Age and see actual bone tools they used. Follow the trail of the centuries along the Roman Road through the mountains high above Rowen in the Conwy Valley. Visit the Roman Spa at Trefriw whose waters are reputed to be health giving.

At Conwy you must visit the towering ramparts of Edward I's 13th Century castle and walk the walls of this fortified town, then visit Aberconwy House, a 14th Century medieval Merchant's House. Conwy also boasts one of the best preserved Elizabethan town houses in Britain - Plas Mawr, where visitors can catch a glimpse of the lives of Tudor gentry and their servants.

Continue on this epic march through the ages to the mid and late 1800s when Llandudno, the region's largest holiday resort, began its transformation. Simply walk the length of the promenade to see the finest and most carefully conserved architecture, unique in style to Victorian Britain. Here unfolded is only a glimpse, a taster of the special heritage that forms this region.
