Peaslake
Peaslake is idyllically situated in the middle of the Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty and important part of London‚s green belt, between Guildford and Dorking. Nestling on the forested northern slopes of Hurtwood common, chalet style houses mix with Victorian and Edwardian buildings, traditional village shops, a 19th century church and a quaint hilltop school, all combining to make Peaslake a charming hamlet to visit. Sandy bridleways passing through refreshing pine scented, natural woodland attract many walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Sunken ancient tree lined lanes winding through high banks of earth filled with tree roots, with nothing but branches for a sky, are a challenge for motorcyclists and car drivers exploring neighbouring villages, such as Friday Street, with its one road leading to an oak and pine fringed lake. Nearby Leith Hill is the highest point of the North Downs, has many wooded footpaths, and is an excellent place for a picnic. From the car park is a steep half mile walk to the hill‚s gothic tower, open on weekends for stunning views all over Surrey and the south east of England including the rather weird experience of being able to look down at planes as they take off from Gatwick airport.
