Boscastle

During the summer of 2004 the pretty medieval village of Boscastle in North Cornwall suffered a devastating flash flood which literally swept away much of the heart of the village. The area most affected is the harbour and the businesses around it. The flood, which at times saw torrents of water up to nine feet high sweeping through the centre of the village, took with it cars and buildings, homes and businesses, and has left in its wake a scene of devastation. There has been a tremendous effort to get the village back on its feet with major repairs to the infrastructure now completed. All roads in the area are now open, including the main road through the village although at the moment there isn't any public parking. It is hoped that some parking will be provided in the coming weeks. As the situation progresses this website will be regularly updated.

Business and home owners in Boscastle are now working very hard to repair, replace and restore the village to its former glory and many are optimistic that they will be open as normal at some stage during 2005. Away from the harbour, village life continues with the many accommodation providers and businesses open and anxious to welcome visitors. The Boscastle Visitor Centre was lost in the flood, however, all enquires and the staff have transferred to its sister centre in Tintagel, where they are able to deal with general information and accommodation bookings. The centre can be contacted on 01840 250010 or 01840 779084.
