Albury

The pretty village of Albury‚s neo gothic houses, shops, pub and church enhance this area of outstanding natural beauty within the Surrey Hills. Ever since being driven out of the original Albury village by landowners, Albury has included the hamlets of Little London and Farley Green. All that remains of the old village within Albury Park are some houses, a grade II listed Tudor mansion (now split into retirement housing apartments), and an interesting Saxon church, mentioned in the Domesday Book. For days trips the tranquil and haunted Silent Pool is worth a visit and there‚s a 1st century Roman temple at Farley Heath. The beauty spot of Newlands Corner on the A24 between Guildford and Dorking is a great place to go for a giant‚s eye view of Albury. Famous as a meeting place for motorcyclists, the gentle slopes of this North Downs hill above Albury are also loved by walkers, picnickers, horse riders and even hot air balloonists. From here the Norman church on St Martha‚s Hill can be seen - this hill‚s plant species have made it a site of special scientific interest , but most people appreciate it more for its views over 8 counties on clear days.
