Dedham is an enchanting and unspoilt village set on the banks of the Stour River in the very heart of the Dedham Vale in Essex. It dates back to Saxon times with quiet lanes peppered with beautiful cottages and houses that span five centuries. Stunning countryside cloaks the village that nudges the Essex and Suffolk borders that was forever immortalised by John Constable who attended the local school, and whose father worked the Water Mill close by. Famed for it's production of wool in the 15th Century, the legacy of which may be seen today with the church of St Mary's, where intricate carvings, are embellished in the roof of the Nave. Explorers of this pretty village can wander along the high street blessed with pleasing shops, and there's always the chance to sample a cuppa in the fabulous 16th Century Tearoom. The Art Museum has an interesting tale to tell, or possibly the lure of the great outdoors maybe one temptation hard to resist, or why not hire a rowing boat and journey up the river where swans, ducks and even otters can be enjoyed. Any aspiring Artist should pack an extra brush and follow in Constable's footsteps as the evocative sight of Flatford Mill bewitches those who gaze.
