On 12th April 1884 the first recorded steeplechase in West Norfolk was won by a horse called Useful over an improvised course at East Winch, near King's Lynn. Racing continued on that course until Easter Monday 1905 when the present site just to the South of Fakenham was selected.

Since 1905, there has been uninterrupted racing at Fakenham (except for during the two world wars), and today's race-goers continue to relish the excitement and buzz of a day at the races from the autumn through to early summer. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of modern life, the rural setting and simple charm of Fakenham Racecourse create a unique and convivial atmosphere where you can cast off your workday problems and enjoy the moment. For many, Fakenham offers the very essence of National Hunt racing, and is undoubtedly one of the country's most friendly racecourses.
