The Mercer Art Gallery is housed in the Promenade Room, Harrogate’s oldest spa building. It is home to Harrogate’s fine art collection which consists of some 2000 works of art, mainly 19th and 20th century paintings by some of the greatest artists of the period. The Gallery also hosts an exciting and diverse series of events and exhibitions, from both national touring shows and local artists. Exhibitions this year include Paula Rego's graphic art, John Goto's New World Circus photographs, British landscapes, women's art from the permanent collection, historic textiles from Temple Newsam House and a major new painting acquisition by W. P. Frith.
