Muncaster Castle, situated in one of the most beautiful corners of the Lake District, has been home to the Pennington family since 1208. The Castle itself houses a large variety of artefacts, collected by the family over the centuries. Treasures include a picture painted by Gainsborough for a bet; John of Bologna's Alabaster Lady; Henry VI's drinking bowl, known as the 'Luck of Muncaster', dating from his stay at the Castle during the Wars of the Roses; and the most ornamental dinner service the Derby factory ever made.

Plants from all over the world, especially flowering shrubs from the Sino-Himalayan region, nestle in the wild splendor of over 70 acres of gardens with the dramatic backdrop of the glorious Lakeland fells. Many rare and unusual trees and plants flourish here. Spectacular rhododendron, camellia and azalea collections. The Hawk & Owl Centre –is home to a diverse collection of birds of prey and owls and offers the opportunity to see these incredible birds in flight. With conservation of wildlife at its hear, the Centre aims to excite and educated visitors of all ages about these winged predators. Don’t miss the magnificent flying displays.

You can also stay B&B or self catering in the 4 star 'Coachman's Quarters'
