Sheltered in a secluded valley, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden is one of the most remarkable sites in Europe.
Yorkshire's first World Heritage Site, the estate encompasses the dramatic ruins of a 12th Century Cistercian Abbey; over 10 historic buildings including an Elizabethan Mansion and richly decorated Victorian Church; a Medieval Deer Park; and an elegant 18th Century Georgian garden with water features, follies and superb vistas. Fountains Mill, one of the best surviving examples of a monastic mill has also been open to the public since Summer 2001.
There are extensive facilities, events and activities throughout the year.
