The Acorn Inn, has been awarded GOLD in the Taste of the West Awards 2015 in the best dining pub category for the South West of England. It also recently received a full page rave review in Condé Nast Traveller, as well as the Sunday Mirror, Sunday Telegraph and Country Homes and Interiors. It’s also named as one of Tom Chessyre’s ‘Top 6 British Inns’ and highly rated in Alastair Sawday’s ‘Special Places to Stay’.

Run by the enthusiastic and experienced management team of Jack and Alexandra Mackenzie, The Acorn is that increasingly rare thing – a traditional village pub full of life, laughter and good company, but with an award-winning restaurant that’s a star attraction in its own right. More than one visitor has remarked (after a few pints) that they are moving to Evershot!

Built in the 16th century from the honey coloured local stone this old coaching inn still retains its original historical character and charm. Thomas Hardy mentions it as 'The Sow & Acorn' in 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles' and the style, with its old beams, low ceilings, oak panelling, flagstone floors and roaring open fires is little changed from his era.

Ten comfortable en-suite hotel rooms in our family and pet friendly inn, are named after places in Hardy’s novels and provide the most modern creature comforts including free wi-fi, but with traditional fabrics and furnishings in keeping with the period.

The country pub is very much at the heart of the community, with a lively bar frequented by a great crowd of regulars who enjoy the real ales, quiz nights, skittles leagues and yard of ale drinking challenges in the company of laid back Jack. And yet the restaurant also wins top accolades from the serious foodies who come back time and again for the exceptional gastro experience.
