When the owners of Thorpe's, then the second-oldest bootmakers in England, felt it was time to retire, they didn't have far to move - they lived in a lovely house right next door to the shop. But when they were deciding what they wanted to see succeed them on Battle's historic High Street - after all, after 170 years of trading you can forgive them for becoming a little attached to their shop - they felt that Steamer Trading would not only be a wonderful addition to the town, but also allow them to indulge their passion for cooking!
We were delighted to have the opportunity to open a shop in Battle - long one of our favourite towns - and we're hoping to match Thorpe the Bootmakers and their 170 year history.
Battle, with its famous Abbey - the scene of the Battle of Hastings - is a must-visit town, with a medieval High Street offering all manner of specialist shops.
