We had booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children. On first impressions it looked good, but having gone to our room we son discovered that this hotel was i serious need of refurbishment. The childrens bed was a bedsetee that had such a wafer thin matress that they complained all night that they were uncomortable. We tried to open the window but it was so rotten we were scared to tough it, the curtains were all ripped, the carpet was work and dirty. The bathroom was utterley discusting, i had to go and asked reception for some toilet roll and we had none, the shower was filthy and falling apart and the toilet brush had so much green mould on it that there are no words to describe. We deceided to take the children for a swim, but that to was a huge disappointment, admittedly they were trying to do it up, but walking around bags of cement on the floor and cement dust hanging in the air with no ventilation, we soon left as it got to overpowering and my asthmatic son was beginning to cough. On going up to the changing/shower area, well, this to was dirty, grimey, falling apart and had the most biggest spiders you could imagine. On the bright side, the staff however were friendly and polite and the breakfast was adequate, even thought the one lady waitress was rushed off her feet, but very helpful. It is such a shame as this magnificent building, with a little TLC could become so much better. Having said that, until standards are raised, i will certainly not be going back and for the price we paid i would have expected far higher standards. A most dissapointing weekend.

Having booked a double room at this hotel, based upon the online description, i unfortunately feel compelled to write this review and warn all other people not to be taken in by what they read! If ever there was a case for breaking the trades descrpitions act - this has to be a classic! 'elegant and comfortable' - should read, 'hasn't been decorated since goodness knows how long and with 2nd hand quality furniture' and a bed that slopes down one side! It was an incredibly hot night and whilst you can accept no air con - a hotel that doesnt have a fan for guests - and there were many complaints & requests for them that night, is hardly acceptable. To make matters worse, there was no opening windows, accept for one small fan light, a horrible outlook over roofs and gutterings. There was no hairdryer in the room, not something i have experienced before, one hand towel and one bath towel - not exactly what you would expect for a double room? the write up claimed 'sumptious cotton bedding' - does that mean buttons missing and holes in the quilt, i guess as that was the case, then it must do? I guess also that digital tv in all ensuite rooms from 2006 means a matchbox size set with no remote? 8am breakfast turned out to start around 8.30, with toast arriving just as we were about to leave. I think the £80 a night charge for that quality and service is nothing short of appalling - we WILL NOT BE RETURNING but future customers - PLEASE BE WARNED!!!!
