This was the second time I had been for a meal at Sky 7, having been impressed on my forst visit by the quality of the food, prompt service and value for money. I wanted to take my mum out for a birthday meal, and with my sister being back in the country for Christmas I booked a table for 6. Despite the proximity to Christmas the restaurant was quiet, only one other party was present, which I'm sure is a reflection on the state of the economy rather than the food they serve (I have only ever heard good reports from friends and family). What was confusing was that despite the quietness, service took longer than my previous visit (particularly the wait between starters and main). I know there is a price to be paid for freshly prepared food, but having been served quicker when the restaurant was busier I was a little perplexed. The other slight annoyance was that a young child, a daughter of either the owner or another member of staff, was being allowed to run around the restaurant for most of the evening. I'm all for a family atmosphere in restaurants, but this was taking it too far, every couple of minutes the girl in question ran right past our table. It was not only annoting, but when staff are carrying huge quatities of hot food around I'd imagine it is not particulaly safe either. It was unfortunate, as it may impact on whether I booked there in the future. That said, the food was excellent. We started with a generous amount of duck with pancakes and hoi sin sauce. This was superb (the duck almost melted in your mouth it was so tender) and a great start to the meal. After a slightly longer than expected wait (see above) our mains arrived. As always seems to be the way with my family, we ordered and array of dishes and shared, I find this much more enjoyable as it eliminates the instances where you can't decide what you want, you simply order it all! Amongst our selections were stir-fried belly pork, duck in strawberry sauce, crispy beef with mango, king prawn sizzled in spring onion and ginger, honey glazed ribs, chicken and vegetables with crispy noodles as well as egg fried rice and soft noodles. I can honestly say everyone in the party enjoyed everything we ordered, it really was superb, and although we oordered a vast amount, we nearly managed to finish it all. I really can't speak highly enough about the food, it as as good as any other restaurant in its price range and some more expensive. The bill for all of us (including drinks) was around £100, which for 6 people (admittedly one not eating too much) was brilliant. All in all a very enjoyable meal, a couple of niggles which took a little of the shine off (particularly compared to my first visit which I could not fault), but excellent value for money.

We enjoyed a superb meal last night at Sky 7. We went for the set menu which was really fresh, plentiful and absolutly delicious. Can't praise Harry and his staff highly enough. Well worth the drive out!
