We have just returned from the Crown and Sceptre where we celebrated our friends 90th birthday - there were 35 of us. The starters for our family of seven were excellent, most of the main courses with the exception of the beef - which had a touch of the vacuum packed about it, were good. Vegetables were good. Service was slow but friendly enough . But pricy but nice venue and okay food if you're not a foody, if you have a discerning palette you will be disappointed.

Booked the Crown and Scepter for refreshments after my fathers funeral. It cost me £427 for 35 people and it was absolutely disgusting the buffet just looked so poor and I had family down from London and from Oxford and was very very let down by it all. I will never be going there again and would never recommend this public house to anyone.

Our meals came to £85, plus drinks costs on top and when we returned one of our meals as the steak was all grissle we were offered £3 back. We weren't happy and with this offer and wanted either a full refund of the 1 meal or a new meal. Management refused to prepare another meal and any refund. We were extremely unhappy and wanted to speak with the chef (manager) and waited half hour for him to come and speak to us. I requested waitress staff again to speak to management and was then invited to the kitchen to speak to the chef. Before i had the oppertunity to speak the chef, (management) began waving a carrving fork around and shouting and screaming at me "you will not be having another meal, you will not be having any money back, get the hell out of my establishment". He then called the police who were very understanding of our situation but said there was nothing they could really do. In all our lives, we have NEVER experienced such a HORRIFIC outcome from simply returning one meal!!!!

I dont usually leave reviews but after visiting the Crown and Sceptre Inn yesterday for Sunday lunch I felt that on this occasion - I had to. The food was excellent, hot, fresh and plentiful. The service was very fast and staff were very pleasant and the prices were more than reasonable. I would 100% recommend eating here and will definitely be doing so again myself.

Visited this pub/restaraunt for my fathers 60th birthday Mum and Dad myself my wife, my brother and his wife and our 2 small children. Not attended before but aware the owners had refurished the place not so long ago. I live in the local area and thought a good idea to attend for a meal and a few beers. Lets cut to the chase - bar staff could do with a smile must have been an off day for them...order of food/service was ok but not fantastic although the waiters were out to make an impression, felt a bit scripted This is where it all went DOWN HILL - After finishing the best part of a £120.00 food bill and being my dad's 60th birthday out comes the birthday cake...we were promptly told we could not cut the cake and eat it unless we were to order desert! Now I am not the sort of person to EVER complain....but felt the need to do just that.....words unfortunatley cannot describe or even start to figure out such a pathetic house rule should this be the case.... I will never in future return or recommend to anyone A total let down as many customers who experienced my dissapointment..
