Best rates for a Local Hotel

We cancelled after only one night of the three we booked during our honeymoon. Was given one of the "cottages" in the courtyard, i.e a pokey en-suite room with a strong smell of damp. Food was decent and the bar looked well used by locals, which is good or bad depending how you look at it. Decor in the main hotel is datedwith the same 1970's Axminster carpet I grew up with at my parent's home. Beware the contrived cancellation policy. We ended paying nearly £200 for one night.

Very disappointing. Shared a twin room with my old school friend who was over from Australia. We both know Criccieth very well (I grew up there)and we wanted to walk down memory lane. I doubt whether the Lion has been upgraded from my childhood in the late 50s and 60s. The rooms are dated, shabby and gloomy. Breakfast was pretty grim too - powdered egg, & the tomatoes were boiled, served by someone who could speak neither Welsh nor English! At £80, it wasn't a cheap night, by far the worst hotel we stayed at during her holiday. The owners really need to clean up their act and invest some money into the place - asking people to pay that kind of money for sub-standard accommodation is a total rip-off.

We stayed in a family room with one double bed and two singles for 1 night. The room was very, very dated including the furniture, carpet and bathroom suite. It was quite dark and smelt damp. The bed linen was old and the bed uncomfortable. The bath had silverfish and a very poor shower. The towels did not smell nice and I'm not sure if they had been washed since the previous occupants. Sky TV was only Sky News. No vegetarian option for breakfast even though in was on the breakfast menu. Beautiful location but very poor 3* hotel.

We found this hotel to be tired and rundown. Rooms 21 and 50 were small and dimly lit. The decoration was of a poor standard. Water leaked through the ceiling above the TV and light switches. Cracks and wet plaster indicated it had happened before. Restaurant staff were pleasant but facilities poor. . No coffee in the room and not available from reception or the bar. Advertised satellite TV but only had terrestrial plus sky news. Owner was aggresive and rude whilst we remained polite and our complaints were justified.
