Having visited the Golden Lion on many occasions in the past and been more than happy, the food and whole experience on this occasion was a major disappointment. To be served what appeared to be oven chips and frozen peas along with what was, thankfully,a nicely cooked piece of fish suggested a compromise in quality of ingredients. Worse than that, a king prawn and garlic butter starter was tasteless and rubbery. However, the worst part of the whole experience was the apparent haste that we were subjected to, suggesting that some of the food wasn't freshly cooked (perhaps an explanation for the prawns). Indeed, from arriving to getting the bill took little over an hour. If we hadn't had a coffee, it would have been a lot quicker. This all meant that the overall bill was overpriced and not good value for money.Back to former glories, please!!!
