I attended a function on Saturday 28.04.07. When my mother and sister organised the function they informed the landlady that I am a Coeliac and therefore could not eat anything containing gluten, ie bread, pastry, biscuits. My mother was informed by the landlady that this was not a problem as they catered for all special dietary requirements. They also said we were not allow to bring our own food, only the celebration cake. However, the buffet consisted of filled rolls, quiches, pork pies and mini sauasages (gluten in the rusk) and a few sticks of vegetables and dips. When I pointed out that there was nothing at all for me to eat, the landlord said he told the organisers that they did not cater for special dietary requirements and told me that there was vegetables and dips. The landord was unable to tell me what ingredients had gone into the dips and as I pointed out to him a few celery and carrot stalks was not adequate. I suggested to him that I could eat cheese, ham, chicken and fish with the vegetables, but again he said he did not cater to individuals. The landlord claimed that the organisers were advised that they did not cater for special dietary needs and would do their best. Providing a few celery sticks and carrots with dips that they have no idea if they contain gluten or not is not what I would constitute as doing your best. I travel quite a bit and attend several functions through the UK and the Bell at Devizes is the only establishment that I have come across where they cannot cope with gluten free, surely going to the fridge and slicing off some cheese or ham on the night as requested would not have been a great problem. Both the landlord and the landlady had a don't care attitude and consequently as I was unable to eat and had an empty I was unable to drink alcohol. If you have special dietary requirements give this pub a miss.

This was my first vist to devizes and i was made most welcome by the managers Paul & Lesley. They showed me to my room which was basic but very clean with fresh towels and tea and coffee and television in the room. It was not en-suite but facillities just outside on the corridor. They made me feel like one of the family during my stay they have got alot to offer with good food friendly staff a large function room which live acts play and parties ample parking space and a rear garden with a pets corner for little ones to see. Also the pub is disabled friendly. My stay was excellant
