I had my first visit to the green man on Tuesday with a group of friends from Eastbourne. I was really impressed with the food and the friendly and helpful service. Food was hot and tasty and definitely 'man size' portions! I still managed a dessert and the lemon meringue pie was wonderful. We sat in the conservatory which was very pleasant and our time there simply flew by. It is an eating place that I will not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

Having popped into the Green Man for lunch on impulse on Tuesday, we returned today for Sunday lunch (pre-booked). Greeted by name, we were shown to a good-sized table and enjoyed a superb roast lunch, with table service for drinks during the meal. The pub was busy, and every table seemed to have diners, both in the restaurant and the bar; but there was absolutely no atmosphere of rush, or panic, or shouted orders; the staff were calm and confident, meals were produced in a timely fashion, requests were dealt with efficiently and with a smile, and the food - home-cooked, from top local ingredients - was superb. Before leaving, we booked for next Sunday too!

This pub has changed hands since the hostile reviews on this site from five years ago, and is now really excellent.
Service is cheerful and swift, there is a range of real ales (which does not include Harveys, which I gather Greene King doesn't allow its pubs to stock) and a very good draught cider, and the food is superb. Pub grub at its very best! The food is home-cooked to a very high standard, using top-quality local ingredients; the suppliers of the main ingredients are listed on the menu.
We dropped in today for lunch on impulse, and had no hesitation in booking a table for Sunday lunch (which offers three roast meats and a veggie option, plus dessert, for £8.95). Our only complaint is that the helpings are so generous that we couldn't finish our platefuls; but we were offered a doggy-bag, which we gladly accepted. On Sunday I will make sure that I reserve enough appetite for the extraordinarily tempting chocolate pudding!

Visited this pub last night and have to say it was one of the most hostile pubs I have ever been to. Not very tourist friendly. The landlord harassed us all evening telling us we had to keep buying drinks because "he had a business to run". We had bought food and drinks already, so this was unwarranted. Our party were given filthy looks all night and made to feel very unwelcome which ruined our evening. One local shouted "don't come back" as he left the pub car park. We would definitely not go back to this pub and would strongly advise anyone else to give this place a wide berth. This is a shame as the pub is in a good location and with ifferent management, could be a success.
