Visited Chequers twice whilst staying in the local area. A very nice place to eat with firndly staff and excellent food. I would certainly not hesitate to eat there again if I findmyself in the area.

As the 'John@ referred to in Nicki's review, I'd simply like to say thank you. I only found the review tonight but it brought back happy memories for me too

I would like to share the news that the Chequers has been completely re-furbished throughout the kitchen and restaurant, and now has a new louge bar in addition to the Conservatory restaurant. We have a completely new menu with a focus on ethically sourced and home made food. We are now trading as "Chilli Bar and Grill at the Chequers" and have a whole new kitchen and front of house team. We sell everything from homemade chilli to ribs, burgers, and freshly made salads, and families with children are very welcome. Hope to see you there!

The food is good however the menu doesn't have any healthy choices at all. They don't even do a simple chicken salad. It's very hard to enjoy a family meal out when there is nothing on the menu to accommodate those of us who are watching our weight.

I love this place the food is delicious..I love Mexican food but the BBQ ribs are very hard to resist! The only downside (and it's a minor one) is that they still don't accept payment by card.

I know that you will not remember me because you have seen thousands of people pass through your doors over the years I am sure, but I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall, UK from 93-96' and I used to call the Chequers my FAVOURITE place to hang out and have a bite and a beer. I am not sure of both owners names.....but I remember JOHN!!! I remember him coming to our table, with a huge smile, kneeling down, and taking our orders, and in between each item we ordered, he politely said, yes, right, right, right, right, lovely!!!..........His personality always put a smile on my face; not mention the Newcastle that was just hte right temperature and the Chicken Enchiladas with that special sauce. Many a rainy day in East Anglia, did take a ride over to that small little village of Eriswell and cozy up at the Chequers with my best friends in tow. Anyway, I was just perusing the internet with nostalgia in regards to my amazing experience living in England and I wanted you to know that there is a special place in my heart for The Chequers Thank you and I wish you all the best always!

I must say that Chequers in Eriswell is hands down, my favorite restaurant in the area. My husband and I are from the states and I can assure you, if you want flavor whilst in England, please, please go to this restaurant. I adore the service and the quality of food is outstanding! And, you can't beat the bargain! Thanks~j.

I have been coming to this pub for a while now on Saturday nights with my mother. We find the atmosphere so friendly! The staff are always welcoming and there to serve you as soon as you are ready to order and we have never met such a friendly landlord and landlady. They always come and greet me and my mother as do other regulars too. This is the only place i can say i feel completely safe in.... no fights!!! Everybody is out to have themselves a great time with no fuss. The music is great too and that always gets people up to have a dance. I have nothing but positive feedback!! I recommend this pub highly!

Although it was busy (being a saturday night) our starter came out very quickly, the portion sizes, for both starter and main courses were both very generous, and absoulutely delicious. Very authentic Mexican food. The dining area has a really cosy atmosphere with nice lighting, background music and candle light on the tables. It dosen't matter that you have to get your drinks from the bar, as it is very close by, and the bar is well staffed so we were always served straight away, I am very fussy when it comes to my food and I didn't have one complaint. We stayed after our meal to enjoy cocktails at the bar and listen to the Dj. we will definitely be going back again soon, I would recommend the chequers for all ages who want a fun night out, there is also seating outside for the smokers.

I am answering the response by the owner to my review. I have lived in Mildenhall all my life. I have tried and enjoyed several great bars and restaurants around the area and have always paid in full. In fact I had been to the Chequers a few times before without problems (afterall we were returning!!). I cannot complain about the staff, they were very helpful....but the conservatory WAS cold that day and I did ask if the radiators could be turned on. Yes I did ask if we could have a jug of cold water whilst eating our spicy Mexican food. And yes I was surprised by the rude manner of this woman claiming to be a queen of customer service....my dear...you have no idea!! Please try Wongs, Dragon House, Enthai sing, Mildenhall Brasserie, Golden Boar (Freckenham), Cutter (Ely), Walnut Tree (Worlington), Red Lion (excellent Spanish in Kirtling), Beehive (Horringer), Chequers (Fordham...not Eriswell!!!). They all know me and know how important good customer service is. Believe me....this most certainly shouldn't feature on your dining map!!!

I am the owner of this establishment. I would like to retort to the reviews by "Tim Williams" and "Sue", who came to my pub together. I can recall their visit to this establishment, and do so with distaste. I can assure visitors of this website that they are "con" artists, out for a free meal. They complained about everything under the sun from the so-called "chilliness", which was completely untrue, to the menu, to the system we operate under, to my staff. I make it a condition of employment that my staff are extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming to our customers, which they always are, and were on the day of this "visit". We are a pub that serves food - not a restaurant with a liquor license, and so yes, drinks are bought at the bar, as is done in many pubs. If anyone was rude, it was Mr Williams who barked at my waitress, and insulted both my mother and myself, after we tried to explain about buying drinks at the bar. Nothing we said or did was enough for these people, and it became swiftly evident why they were there. Needless to say, Mr Williams shouted out that they were "not paying!", after they had had starters AND main courses (2 adults and 3 children). Publicans beware of the man complaining too loudly and too often. It may well be Mr and Mrs Tim and Sue Williams looking for a freebie.

Heard and read mixed reports about the Chequers, so wanted to try it out. Limited mexican menu. Conservatory was chilly, and found staff unhelpful about turning radiators up. Could not order ANY drinks at the table, had to make several trips to the bar. Food ok but is not worth making a trip back.

well...what can I say....conservatory is freezing, food was very bland, drinks expensive, service lousy......if you need a drink (even though we were the only ones there) then you have to go up to the bar (even a glass of water!!) and push your way past the old lady smoking on a stool....not nice and certainly not recommended.....much better choices around....trust me!!
