Myself and my wife were told about this pub by a friend who recommended it as being better value and as good as The Bluebell at Belchford. Having heard this, we decided to go along and give it a try during December. We plumped for the Friday evening and reserved a table for 8pm. On arrival the restaurant was pretty busy, but having been there for just a few minutes we were shown to our table and given menus. The waitress seemed very pleasant and duly returned a few minutes later to take our starter order. My wife decided to go for the prawn Marie Rose and I went for the goats cheese starter. For mains my wife chose the vegetarian risotto whereas I went for a rare rump steak with all the trimmings. The starters came out in about 10 minutes which I thought was pretty good, and both of us agreed that they were excellent, especially mine which in my opinion equalled anything a fine dining restaurant could have provided. Things were looking good! When the mains arrived we were not disappointed, the risotto was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. My wife who is used to being palmed off with ill thought out vegetarian dishes commented that the risotto was a hugely welcome change - obviously put together by someone who understands that vegetarians need decent food too! My steak was a generous size and cooked just about spot on, with it came lashings of chips and some huge battered onion rings which were delightfully crispy. I had also ordered some Diane sauce which was properly put together with cream, French mustard and brandy. Beautiful. Service was in the meantime very attentive, we were asked if we required more drinks at least twice, and if everything was alright. For dessert I had chocolate fudge cake, my wife went for the raspberry cheesecake. We thought both desserts were very tasty, the portions were generous without being gut-busting and the flavours were superb. We kept on commenting that we couldn't believe we were in a pub eating this quality of food at pub prices. Well to summarise, our friend wasn't wrong about this gem of a pub being equal to The Bluebell in quality, that it certainly is. Hospitality and service were absolutely first class and we will definitely be eating there again. Well done Ronnie and team - keep up the good work!

Was a lovely restaurant with good food & great service. that was until recently. Absolutely awful service &food that was inferior. Our table was booked for 7pm, given menus at 7.05pm & still waiting for orders to be taken at 7.25pm. Had to complain about this to the serving staff. Orders taken & starter not served for another fifteen minutes. Empty plates on our table for over ten minutes then another twenty minutes before our main course was served. No explanation forthcoming for delay. When we politely complained to the manager, he got very abusive. We pointed out a couple on the next table had walked out and a party of diners nearby were heard complaining. Having eaten there on many occasions and always having being more than satisfied this was extremely disappointing to say the least and his attitude was dreadful. He needs to attend a course on how to speak to his customers. Because this pub restaurant is in such a small village, with people being so disgusted with the service he will soon be out of business! Go there to see for yourself. Thats if you dare!
