Visited the Tickled Trout in Wye at the weekend. New owners have just taken over in August and they make the pub a joy to be in. Very quick and friendly service, food is good, especially the Sunday roast. Nice atmosphere and lovely setting. Will continue to visit this pub.

A huge disappointment! The customer service was appalling and the food not alot better. I shall not be returning and that's a shame as living in Wye its the pub with the best setting by the river.

A big disappointment! After having a few meals here in the past and being extrememly satisfied with the service and food, before the change of ownership, today was a huge disappointment. The lasagne nearly had my youngest daughter choking on the silver foil lid found inside, my partner went hungry as there was some confusion over his order and even the drinks order was wrong. The only advice I can give is either avoid or bring a picnic as the setting is beautiful. We will not be returning.

A lovely pub in a beautiful situation where, in the past, I have enjoyed excellent meals. On this occasion I ordered chicken breast wrapped in bacon with a creamy sauce (can't recall the name of the sauce). About 5 mins after ordering the waitress informed me that the chef had no cream (it hadn't been delivered) and could he make a tomato and basil sauce instead. I said this would be fine. However the 'sauce' was cold, and seemed to be just whizzed up raw ingredients. The main and overpowering flavour was rosemary. There was NO basil in my tomato and basil sauce! The chicken was very dry and bland. I would mention that, although my meal was awful, my dining companions were happy with theirs. Just one other thing to mention was the strange musty smell in the restaurant area and there were snail/slug trails on the carpet. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Had a fantastic burger here over the summer so when cruising around Kent yesterday afternoon we decided to go out of our way and visit again. After a couple of ales, we ordered house pate and breaded camembert to start followed by skate wing with a peppercorn sauce and a medium rare ribeye steak with all the trimmings. Everything was cooked to a very high standard and absolutely delicious. Despite the generous portions we topped it off with a black forest gateau between us. Staff were very friendly throughout. Would happily go there again and recommend to anyone. Wish it was our local!

After reading the reviews on here we nearly didn’t go to the Tickled Trout, but are really pleased we ignored them. The Staff are really helpful & friendly. The Food was really good, Steak & kidney pie & Lasagne. Really couldn’t fault either. Hot meals, quick service, helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere. What more do you want. Will definitely be returning.

I cannot believe the above reviews in reference to how wonderful the Trout is.I went there with my wife for lunch and was totally let down by the quality of the food and service.I have worked in the catering industry for some thirty five years and I have never seen anything like it.We certainly will not be returning and it is a great shame because its a lovely pub and a great location.

Popped in for lunch as it looked like a lovely pub. They were having some problems in the kitchen so only sandwiches and jacket spuds on. Opted for jacket and beans and salad whilst hubby went of jacket with tuna mayo and salad. His jacket spud was ok but salad comprised some leaves and chopped onion on the plate - no dressing and to be honest the whole thing looked thrown on. My jacket was cold - not luke warm - actually cold. Took it back, waitress very apologetic. Came back 5 mins later and said "the chef was going to warm it up but i've told him to give you a fresh one" Will we return - never! Shockingly bad.

WELCOME BACK SQUIRREL, where have you been for the last 2 years? when i heard you returned to The Tickled Trout last year I was so pleased. My family and I used the pub every other week especially in the Summer months sitting in the garden next to the riverside with a cold drink and an enjoyable meal. i can certainly say we were unable to do that for the last 2 years due to the management there, it was horrible, so sad to see such a lovely pub go down down down so quickly, no atomsphere, staff that had no knowledge about the business etc, i could go on but i wont.Fortunatly thatwas the past and now this is the future and your back. when we heard you were back running the pub we came down to see you and it was lovely. The food was back to its fantastic standard, the real ales top class and the atmosphere was electric. Im sure you will bring the pub back to its reputation you had before around 4 years ago. i will recomend you to all, see you soon and once again WELCOME BACK SQUIRREL

After a long walk along the north downs, we were looking forward to a nice lunch at the tickled trout. The lunch served was an absolute dissapointment, one dish was dry and burnt! the rest left little to be desired, overpriced food (also the ales were very poor quality and not well kept). We will not be returning and would not recommend the pub to anyone.

While getting lost to our original destination we passed Wye and saw the Tickled Trout on the River, beautiful looking place but what a shame the staff are so rude. We arrived at 2.20pm, and asked if they were still doing food. Yes, but they stop at 2.30pm so now they will only do Baguettes (Bacon and other cooked meats included). So, we asked if we could and possibly if it was easier, have a Ploughmans. We were told, We are psuhing our luck so told them not to bother. We never got to eat there but doubt we will go back again unless to have a drink by the river!

It should have been lovely!!!!! We sat in the garden by the river waiting for our friends which was great on a nice warm evening. We went to tell them we were ready for the table to be told by a grumpy woman it was round the corner, we sat down waiting for the menu...nothing, had to go and ask for it, she gave us 1! Chose our food, back to the bar to order it but maybe we should have just left then, 30 minutes later when it arrived it was barely warm. The men decided to have desert, again luke warm. The table wasnt cleared between courses so we piled the plates on a spare table, there were plenty of spare tables!by now it was 10pm and the grumpy woman kept walking by staring as if to hurry us to leave. We will never go back and will not recommend it to anyone.

Arriving at this pub for a meal - we'd booked a table for 5 on the phone - we were unwelcomed by a bald man who looked inconvenienced by having to find our booking in a couple of diaries - he couldn't find the booking and unsmilingly gestured us to a table. You better sit there, he said. It took at least 5 minutes probably 10 before we were even spoken to by a staff member. The pub was more or less empty. Perhaps two other tables eating. Our waiter, a nervous rabbit of a boy, did eventually take our drinks order and gave us menus. It took another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. There were no vegetarian options on the menu. The vegetarians were left to discover for themselves that there were a couple of veg specials on boards. The waiter, though eager to please, had clearly not been trained at all. He passed the drinks along the table rather than serving to each person. Eventually our food arrived (again passed along the table rather than served to each person) and three meals were fine (fish and chips and lasagne) but the scampi was cheap and bready. Worst of all was the belly of pork which was rubbery and inedible. We sent this back. The little waiter scampered out to say the chef was sorry but belly of pork IS rubbery. Unfortunately the person in our party who got the rubber pork IS a chef and actually knows how to cook. Other problems - an extra portion of chips took 15 minutes to arrive at the table. Orders of drinks didn't arrive and had to be asked for at the bar. There was no tartare sauce available. At no time did the management come across to the table to say anything about the rubber pork. When the bill arrived it still had the pork on it. When this was pointed out to the manageress she rolled her eyes and went through to the kitchen. Coming back to say - well, they never tell me ANYTHING. She returned with the bill, pork crossed out and a new total. When I went to pay the bill the unwelcoming man didn't seem able to work out how to take part cash and part by card. So from the initial welcome, through the service, the food and the general treatment (we were made to feel like a minor inconvenience rather than paying customers) the whole experience was quite appalling. And it cost us 60 quid. We won't be going back there. And I suggest you don't either.

What a disapointment!! The food would have been good if it hadn't been luke warm and served on cold plates! The starters took well over 30 mins to arrive as did the main course. All service was slow slow slow. The room we sat in was extremely cold and half of our party of 6 sat with coats on to keep warm! We will never go there again and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. And if you are disabled forget it!!! Thank goodness I was lucky enough to have such great company. - Never again!

I have to agree with every word written here. I had heard wonderful things about the TT only to have the worst meal ever. My rare steak was so over cooked it was inedible. The food took forever to arrive. Never again.

This pub HAD the reputation of being great food. The place was empty untill my group of 12 arrived. Once we ordered the reason became quite clear. The starter took 25 minutes to arrive-it was very average. The Main course took a little under 45 minutes and was so poor I failed to eat it,... The steak was like leather, poorly presented and the chips were dripping in fat, some were solid and burnt others were soggy. Dont go there it is a disgrace, I certainly will never set foot in the place and I am sad that it ruined the birthgday party my group was celebrating. Egon Ronay accepted, go in Egon and nail the place! Second thoughts you probably know already like everyone else which is clearly why it was empty - word has got round eh??

Absoulutley disgusting food will never go back! I went about 8 months ago and the food was fantastic, I met the chef and was very eager to tell him how wonderful his food was. I now understand he has left. and from what i tasted Sunday the food standard has gone with him. Cold vegetables, my starter was bland, my mothers soup was insipid(on mothers day too.
