I emigrated to Australia last Feb '08, but lived in Dorset prior. The venue I chose for my farewell meal with close friends before flying off to a warmer climate was The Fiddleford. I can guarantee the food and service of this establishment. Both are top rate. The owners Liz and Johnny are also 'top rate'. I know from personal experiance the lengths both individuals go to in order to please their customers, often over and above the call of duty. If you are looking for the personal touch give the folk and food at The Fiddleford a go......YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! (Do I miss the UK...NO, but I miss folk like Liz and Johnny and what they have to offer).

Fantastic! We were made to feel so welcome even though we had not reserved a table for the 6 of us. We had an amazing meal and the kids really enjoyed their spaghetti & meatballs too! The place was spotlessly clean and all the staff greeted us with a smile. We want to tell everyone about the way we were treated on Saturday because the place was teaming with people and we received nothing but courtesy, efficiency and respect! We think the previous reviewer must have been tired and emotional because her attitude to the place doesn't reflect our experience. We were told the kids could eat from the Children's Menu or have a half sized adult portion or just have an extra plate an eat something of ours - perfect! There were also organic fruit drinks which is unusual. Go and enjoy - you won't be disappointed.

We had a very tasty and affordable lunch, following a stroll along the old railway from Sturminster Newton, an ideal stopping point. Unfortunately I could not recommend the inn from a family perspective, the attitude of the landlady is summarised by the fact that highchairs are not provided because they cannot get insurance cover. This suggests they do not wish to pay the insurance premium. A toddler menu is available which is mainly chips plus..., my son therefore ate from the adult meun. Much tastier.

I would just like to say that I come from this part of the world and regularly vist my parents here and go out for meals. In my opinion this is the best food that I'd had in that area for years. The service is extremely attentive without being overbearing, and the decor and ambiance lovely. We sat in the music room and maybe the music could have been slightly improved but overall a top class place and my family in the area I'm sure will become regulars. Very well done to the new owners - what a great place :o) .. and can't wait to visit again ...

We stopped at this pub because we were tired and still had a long way to travel. Being publicans ourselves we have very high standards. This pub was tip top. The landlady greeted us with a cheery smile and took us through the local beers, local food options on the menu and gave us excellent advice on our choices. The food was fantastic! Everything was perfect, tasteful decorations, spotlessly clean and efficient service. The pub was busy, too, so there could have been plenty of opportunities for delays and mistakes. Wewe were given good suggestions on the best route for the rest of our journey! This pub is an oasis - visit and enjoy!

I'm sure the people that gave bad reviews visited before the pub was taken over! I visited with my 2 children and a friend of mine a few weeks ago, the service was wonderful, staff helpful, and food delicious! The staff weren't at all bothered by my tired and grumpy 4 and 2 year olds! Very good for children, it has a fenced play area where they can happily play. Excellent pub, going back this weekend!

This pub has changed hands in the last few months and the 2006 reviews refer to the old landlord. When we visited recently we had a delicious meal in the dining room and the service and food was really excellent. We want to return soon for a Friday night music session, great place!

Also surprised with earlier review, upon our visit, we found good beer, good music, and one of the best steaks i have ever eaten. The refurbishment is completed to a high standard and the staff made our evening a delight. an all round good experience.

We had a lovely meal - very tasty and beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. I am shocked by earlier report, we found the staff helpful, welcoming, jolly and efficient. The beer was delicious and served at the right temperature. The loo was spotless and we have returned twice already

Surprised at earlier view. We visited in February following extensive refurbishment and delighted with food, welcome and whole experience. Local menu, warm welcome and excellent local ales - what more could you ask for?

my boyfriend and i were walking using a dorset guide book and saw this pub and its beer garden. we were tired and decided to sit in the garden of the pub and have some tea from our thermos flask. although we werent patrons of the pub we didnt think we would be doing much harm as it was the middle of winter and its not exactly like we were taking up seats of paying customers. never the less i could understand if the owner were to become annoyed at our using his seats, so when the landlord came to us to tell us to move i was quite willing to do so apologetically. i was not however expecting the verbal abuse that my boyfriend and i recieved from this landlord. i felt physically threatened and my first thoughts were of calling the police. despite my attempts to apologise he still remained angry and full of hatred. our parting notes were from me - "i'm sorry for disturbing you." and from him "you will be". if he hates people sitting in his garden with such malice then he could easily put a sign up- i would not treat another human like that if they had injured a family member of mine. i was deaply effected by his behaviour and would not wish the same for anyone else. note to all ramblers- AVOID THIS PUB.
