After reading all of the previous reviews I feel I must leave an impartial review . Having visited this inn several times in the past (with previous owner) I was unaware on this particular visit it had changed hands , I was met with a very friendly welcome and asked to take a seat , I didn't feel rushed in any way and the atmosphere relaxed . Now with regard to the previous Landlady , yes she will be missed and the wide veriety of foods/deserts on the menu but these guys look to be keeping the traditional home cooked foods going and was impressed with the roasted parsnip soup /steak/ale pie . Some people understandably don't like change but sometimes things have to move on /improve , I feel i would need several future visits of sampling their food to give a completely accurate review of the food but first time with new owners it gets a thumbs up from me .

Me and my husband Michael decided to give the Fishpool a visit last night after a friend recommended the country pub to us, we were quite suprised when we sat down as a young camp waiter gave us the menu and said he will give us some time to look at the menu, 15 minutes later the young waiter came back and didnt appologise for the wait which we thought was uncanny, but when we received our meals which were steak ale pies served with chunky chips and garden peas we were very impressed by how beautiful the meat tasted. i would recommend the pub as it met our standards. thankyou for a lovely meal chefs.

Some friends of ours were at the Fishpool a few weeks ago and came back raving about an attractive blonde waitress. Naturally, I and some other friends decided that we should probably have a look in. We were not disappointed. The food was great, they had a good selection of both lagers and bitters and there were not one but two very attractive waitresses. The new owners can give themselves a pat on the back.

Popped into the Fishpool for the first time since it changed hands and, after reading previous reviews, we felt we had to leave our own comments. Our experience consisted of a friendly welcome from the highly efficient staff, tasty food and a great atmosphere in the busy beer garden. A lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon!

We were very pleasantly surprised when we fell upon the Fishpool Inn during a drive in the Cheshire countryside. On arrival the staff were very presentable and attentive. They were knowledgable of the real ales, extensive wine list and the locally sourced menu and specials board. The food was well proportioned and delicious. The venue has been stored in pride of place on our sat nav for the next time we can take a trip out of town. We have passed on our comments to anyone willing to listen and know that the Inn has been visited by some of them already! We will carry on receommending and hope to see you soon.

After reading several of the reviews I was unsure about making a reservation but decided I wanted to make up my own mind about The Fishpool and I gave it a try. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the attention to detail that has gone into the place. As we arrived it was quiet but it atmosphere soon improved as the pub filled. The food was outstanding, all freshly prepared and very tasty. Excellent service and a good choice of wines. Gone are the discounted menus of old and thankfully we have a little gem of a pub which can only get better as time goes by. What a breath of fresh air the new owners have brought to The Fishpool, lighter and friendlier atmosphere teamed with good food and drink, 10 / 10 Highly recommended

Went along with an open mind – previous memories being old, fusty, overcrowded and dull but was knocked over by new transformation. Light fresh decor, space and obvious quality – excellent service, politeness and warm welcome at the bar. Menu was clearly no longer old pub-grub, now a mouth watering range of “real food” prepared with all freshly cooked ingredients. My sons Jack and Dougie (a qualified Sous Chef himself) praised their half roast duck, succulently cooked and imaginatively presented with sprinkled sesame seeds and basmati and wild rice. I thoroughly enjoyed my skilfully prepared salmon, with sweet & sour peppers, lightly done spinach and lemon roast potatoes. A good selection of side dishes were also available - no-one batted an eyelid when the boys ordered extra sides of chips, which arrived large, chunky and crispy – freshly cut from real potato. Jack and I couldn’t resist chef’s own sticky toffee pudding served with lashings of sauce and a scoop of locally produced creamy Cheshire Farm vanilla ice cream. Doug’s squidgy hot chocolate brownie melted in the mouth, accompanied by unusually flavoured banana ice cream – which of course Jack and I just had to have a taste ! Its one of life’s strange mysteries to me, that when you are not expecting anything in particular – out of the blue comes a really pleasant surprise... .. thanks Jack for such a lovely evening, we’ll most definitely have to do it more often !

Having read the recent comments about the food at the Fish Pool, I had to make my own comments on the visit that I had there one sunday lunch I think a week after the new owners had taken it over. We had the sunday lunch and steak and ale pie, as we have already eaten at the present owners other establishments we were expecting the same high standards, and we were not disappointed, there was a good selection on the menu and on the specials board, the food was good and well cooked, and the potions for the dessert where large. The pub itself was not of the same standard as their other pubs, but I eagerly wait to see it after their refurbishment. As with all reviews this is personal choice as to whether you think food is good or bad, I have been to a number of Mitchell star restaurants and have worked in the restaurant business, so I know good food and bad. The new owners should be applauded for the attitude they have taken on food & drink standards and cleanliness within the kitchens, I for one would not want my food coming out from a kitchen that is covered with filth and grease which only encourages vermin, or my pint from unclean lines. Anyone who has eaten at the Bears Paw and the Pheasant will have seen what the food standards the new owners have and as for being a yuppie pub no way, maybe the people who did not like what they had do prefer food that has been bought in and warmed in a micro wave, there are still many pubs who do 2 for £6.00 I for one enjoy the fresh produce bought from the local farmers and businesses in the area, and having it made without any,’ E’ additives to prolong its shelf life. I wish the new owners and staff every success in their new venture.

This was the first and last time of eating here since the new owners took over the pub. As a party of 6 including two children, we ate here on a regular basis. There was always a warm welcome by the previous landlady and her staff. There is now no children's menu available after 6pm, so any one going with children after this time will be very dissappointed. In reply to the review by Mr Nelson, obviously people went there for the exceptional food and friedliness of the staff at the pub, this is why you always had to book. IF food was frozen, microwaved served out of a dirty kitchen, hats off to the chef, as we NEVER suffered with ANY after effects from eating or drinking there otherwise we and many, many others would not have gone back. They served traditional food, that tasted excellent and at an affordable price. The choice of food in the "faux leather wallet from the 80's" included Gammon with all the trimmings and a choice of steaks, along with the specials board and the famous "double lamb rump" was exceptional, and a member of our party always had a double helping of the delicious Bread and Butter Pudding that was made every Sunday. We were very disappointed with the new daily menu, as the only steak offered was a rib-eye at £18.00 If we had not previously booked we would have left and gone elsewhere. The quality of the food was not to our liking and it is the first time a member of our party has ever left a pudding! In fairness the staff were polite and the level of service was ok, but we did wait well over 40 minutes after ordering until we got our food, so I'm afraid Mr Nelson if all your food is cooked fresh to order, thank god for freezer's and microwaves, whether clean or dirty!

After reading some poor reviews I almost cancelled my Saturday night booking. However as the pub is so convenient for Fishpools Farm Campsite (fantastic BTW!)we decided to risk it. We had our in-laws with us who are not shy when it comes to giving opinions and I was so relieved to find that the poor reviews were completely unfounded. Yes the pub was quiet but not empty, which suited us. We had a lovely quaint little room practically to ourselves and the staff were very attentive if a little disorganised when we first arrived. The presentation of the food was second to none and the quality was exceptional. If you are wanting piles of cheap food then correct - this is not for you - go further down the road if you want 2 for 1 deals etc. If you want a decent meal, don't mind paying for what you get then give it a try. Only for the fact that our table wasn't ready when we arrived Fishpools Inn would have scored a 10!

After years of fantastic meals which were also an experience I went with 7 others to find the usually packed pub virtually empty. We found that there are now new owners. Drinks expensive and meals extremely small portions and overpriced. Small piece of Lemon Sole came with just 3 small chunks of potato placed individually round the plate. Menu said it was with new potatoes. Was told I should have ordered a side of potatoes @ £3. Manager said they do not like to fill people up so that they cannot walk out!!!! We all left hungry. They also criticised the previous owners. Not customer friendly. Will not go again.

At last the Fishpool has new owners, fresh tasty food and great staff, not a microwave in sight!! It was not a surprise to find out that the new owners were the same family who own that fantastic range of pubs, including the Bears Paw (Warmingham), Pheasant (Burwardsley) and the Grosvenor at Pulford. We can't wait to see the transformation, when it under goes it's "make over"!! Oliver and Debbie Rowe

I too feel cheated. Why oh why do new pub owners have to fix something that is not broken. I knew we were in trouble when we arrived and the car park was empty which was most unusual normally it would be packed. I even booked ahead because in the past you were lucky to find a seat for two and as there were six of us we would never have got in. I needn't have bothered the place was empty and I know why. The menu has changed dramatically gone are the special offers, the pension meal deals, the best value for money freshly cooked meals around. In its place are expensive run of the mill meals. Gone is the lovely cosy atomosphere. Please please bring back the old landlady/landlord to show them how it should be run and defenitly bring back the chef to show them how food should be cooked and presented. If anybody knows where they have gone to will they let us know.

As new operators of The Fishpool Inn I would like to pass comment on the last two reviews as I feel they are biased towards the fact we no longer serve three courses for £5.95 and there is valid reason for this. Since taking over the Fishpool on the 4th July we have made significant improvements to an inn much in need of some TLC. This includes but is not limited to the following: 1. Our gardening team have spent significant time tidying up the external side of the property. The gardens are now perfectly maintained and no longer overgrown and un-kept. The inn now looks extremely picturesque with all the hanging baskets added. 2. Inside the pub everywhere has been given a lick of paint including the bare plaster walls. Carpet cleaners were on site for three days to remove the grease from the carpets and the pattern and colour now shines through where previously it was a sticky black mess. 3. The kitchen has benefited from investment in much needed new commercial cooking equipment. The EIGHT microwaves have been removed along with the abundance of domestic freezers. The huge walk-in freezer has been converted to a walk-in fridge. I would also like to point out, I would not have fed my dog from the kitchen we inherited and I am sure previous customers would have been shocked to see the environment their food was being cooked in. We have sent pictures to the Environment Health Agency as we were perplexed how this inn was allowed to operate previously. 4. We are no longer tied to national suppliers such as Tetleys, and now serve beers brewed by local micro-breweries such as Weetwood Ales. We clean our beer lines on a regular basis and your ale we no longer have to pass through lines caked in yeast build up before it reaches your pint glass. Wine will now be served from a bottle (minimum 12%abv) imported from fantastic producers around the world rather than from a Stowells tap at 2% abv. 5. We do not buy in frozen foods - you will no longer see a Brakes frozen food lorry on this car park. All food is cooked fresh to order by our team of skilled chefs. 6. We have carried over many of the staff previously employed. Those not taken on were with valid reason - including one member who on the first day was caught stealing the stereo from my car and has since been charged. I write because I feel the below reviews unfair. They do not comment on the quality of food or the level of service they experienced. Yes our menus are printed on paper and no longer in a faux leather wallet from the 80's. This is because they change daily! We do also operate a specials blackboard which promotes all seasonal produce. We are not a 'yuppy' pub group. We are a small family run company who care deeply about what we do. Please feel free to look at our other sites and the reviews associated to them on tripadvisor. Our aim is to bring the Fishpool up to a similar standard. www.nelsonnorthwest.co.uk We understand that there are 'horses for courses' and we cannot necessarily please everyone but we attempt to! But when you see customers come in who are cemented to the previous regime and the OAP £5.95 menu and they comment as follows, "It pains me to say the food was first class, and I couldn't fault the service", what can you do?????

Oh DEAR, Where has the landlady gone..No special offers, No quirky staff, NO slow roasted lamb rump!!!! This lovely Inn has been taken over by a small chain of yuppy pubs with big plans to convert and remove all its character. There will be many, many disappointed nay, devastated customers of the previous landlady when they arrive to a paper menu and an almost empty car park! Note to anyone expecting value for money...this is no longer the place!! Would be very interested to find out if another establishment has been opened by the previous landlady.

A friend told us about the Fishpool Inn some time ago but we had never got round to visiting, until now. As we entered we were disappointed that all the vacant tables were reserved, but, thankfully, they managed to fit us in. We had one of the best pub lunches we have ever had, roast port with all the trimmings. The personal service of the landlady and her staff was excellent. We will definately be coming back again soon!

This was our first visit to Fish Pool Inn, and we were delighted. This is a REAL inn with fantastic food and friendly service. The steak and ale pie was tender and delicious. We wanted to eat outside as it was a sunny day, and this was no problem for the staff. We shall certainly be visiting it again. We abandoned the first pub we visited as there was some dreary woman 'singing' over the speakers which were everywhere and the staff were unable to turn the noise down, so we left for the peace and quiet of the Fish Pool Inn.

I'm reticent to write a review of the Fishpool becuase I dont want everyone to know about it! The most outstanding value for money you will ever see. I particularly recommend the steak and ale yorkies and the rump lamb. I know what people mean about the choice of desserts - but to be honest it isn't often i'm capable of eating one after the main!

Having visited once before and received brilliant service and quality food. I booked for a family celebration. there was 11 in our party having arrived we were made very welcome. We were seated all together although this is a traditional small country pub we given a separate room from other diners and other pub users. which was great although a little snug but this was expected because of the type of Inn. There was a great selection on the menu to suit all pockets and appetites including a brilliant selection on the special boards some seasonal favourites. i has pan fried sea bass which did not disapoint excellent portion size and cooked to perfection. the rest of my fellow diners remarked that they also thoroughly enjoyed their selections. The staff were brilliant very polite and although our group was fairly large coped well and there was not much of a wait for our food all our dishes came out together too!! Thankyou!! I would and have already recommended to others. well worth a visit i am sure you will not be disapointed!!!

Our first visit the FPI, we were not disapointed, After a shakey start when we we wait for ages for a menu, I mean ages, we almost walked out, we are glad we didn't and the place was very busy Friday Night 7pm ish We had the 3 course menu ( £ 6.95) yes that's correct £6.95 We started with soup, at last, HOT soup in a warm bowl which was perfectly salted with nice crusty bread/My wife had Roast Beef( perfect) as was my steak pie with a flacky pastry top(no not one of those awful flaky flat hats stuck on top of the dish that sort of disintegrate before your eyes when you touch it and taste like slightly butter bark)this was cooked properly with the dish. The sweet menu was a little disappointing, the usuall suspects ( the creamy splodgy thingys) what ever happend to school dinner puddings) you know spotted dick/sponge pud/jam rolly polly etc. Anyway we were very impressed overall the food really was excellent, go on give it a try, you know you want to.

We had booked a table for 4 we arrived early but this was not a problem as the Staff were very welcoming and changed our table so we could be quickly seated and not waiting about. we could not get over the staffs friendly approach in providing excellent service and were very attentive. The menu was varied with a good choice of fresh local seasonal produce and all 4 of us ordered different meals which were excellent, perfectly cooked and well presented and the portion sizes were generous deffinatly not your usual pub grub!! reasonably priced but quality!! we all remarked that it was one the best meals we have had in a pub for along time. well recommened and worth a visit will not be disapointed advise due to its popularity booking maybe required at weekend.
