Good Points: Location for walks. Bad Points: Extremely dated hotel. The room we stayed in was very small and damp. Not quaint but poor. When we asked what time check in was, they replied that it was 2pm but may be 4pm as they were very busy as they had a wedding on. During the night our room door was knocked upon 3 times. In the morning we complained to the manager, who said that there was nothing she could do as we had not reported it in the night. We explained that by discussing the situation at 2am in the morning would have only disturbed us further, which is why we did not report it until the morning. She refused to compensate us in any way. General review: Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was definitely not value for money in any way and we will not stay there again.

Obviously from reading the previous reviews the hotel has undertaken some drastic changes, we had a fantastic break. The hotel was very traditional, every inch the manor house, with great views over the lake. The staff were extremely helpful, they couldn't do enough for us, helped with our bags, gave us maps and bus timetables for the local area and generally made us feel really welcome. We stayed on a special offer, just £198 for us both to stay for 3 nights! amazing! The food was gorgeous for every meal and the breakfast was plentiful and set us up for a good day walking. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we are looking forward to going back next year.

Arrived at 2pm as suggested on booking form via Active Hotels (complete waste of time) we booked 1 double and 1 triple when we arrived no rooms for us so we where asked to wait in the bar area for complementory drinks trouble was the reception woman had to double up as bar staff having never even poured a pint she promptley asked our party and two other couples to help ourselves behind the bar. Eventually at 3.15pm we where given keys to 1 double room (room 16!) remember this .. Staff on reception blamed it on a mislaid fax from Active Hotels there response was to blame the hotel all in all a total cock up of a weekend. Went across the road to the Swan Hotel absolute 5 star hotel had to pay a bit more but was well worth it. Check other review sites on the internet regarding this hotel don't trust their own reviews it's a pack of lies. What made it more annoying was that one of our party was a disabled young man and not one thought was given to him and how his weekend was ruined! Someone put down on another website that this hotel was stuck in a timewarp that's an understatement to say the least!!!!!!! Pie eaters(Wigan)

Good Points: Adequate room facilities although furnishings and decor a bit jaded. Bad Points: As above, the building is obviously very old but the room we stayed in did feel 'jaded'. General review: Found the hotel to have a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly. Disappointed that the bar closed after normal hours and did not cater for guests 'after hours' drinking. Breakfast was excellent. Views of the lake from hotel frontage were very pleasant. We did not realise, when booking, that the hotel would be situated in such a comparatively isolated location. The stay was my present to my parents to celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary and overall we all enjoyed our stay.

Good Points: I got a late booking easily via the internet. It was close to my destination. Bad Points: Distinctly average room, a little shabby and ridiculous piped music at breakfast!

Stayed for 3 nights, 1st night we had to move rooms as there was no hot water and the jacuzzi did not work. Decent enough rooms, not the best we have ever stayed at! Food was pretty good, location was not so good. All in all not a bad trip, but would not stay at the Newby Bridge Hotel for our next lakes break.
