...an olde worldie, low ceilinged, dark passageway'd pub with a sense of the pokey about it, though just what the customers of this sort of pub want, and deeply desire. An air of olde countyfied dinge is the order of the day and the destination of choice for the aficionado of this kind of eaterie and wateringhole... though there is nothing watery about The Chequers. We visited on an afternoon in May, when food was on call to be served in a bar or outside in the well set-up beer garden (that name does not do it justice ) since the restaurant is only open in the evening. Be brave and order an exotic dish from the suit all tastes menu; the chefs will excite and tantalise the tastebuds. Oh, and the beer was splendid. One piece of advice - if you want to pennypinch stay with Macdoodahs, and spare the appreciative lunchers your grunting and moaning.

Lovely quaint old english pub with attractive beer garden. Shame the food and drink are extortionate prices even if it is good quality. If you intend to go there for a quiet, relaxing drink in the garden with your partner, be prepared for local young children running riot, screaming and shouting for hours, whilst other customers look on in despair, as they did last night.

As they said above. Really nice place, nice comfortable outside seating areas where you can still feel quite secluded from others. Only 45 mins walk from Fairburn (where we live) & 20 mins from the Ings nature reserve. Brilliant on a sunny afternoon :D. Only slight bug bear would be the price of beer (over £3 a pint outside of Leeds is a bit pricey), but the food and atmosphere make it worth it!
