Booked Queen Catherine Hotel for an evening meal as staying close by. Think I knew where this meal was going after visiting the Ladies toilets! Secondly being Coeliac I asked the waitress if a certain meal was ok to eat. She came back having spoken to the chef, he recommended I didnt have this meal as it had "milk" in the mashed potatoes. (Coeliac being an intolerance against Wheat!) Our meal arrived some thirty minutes later. My husbands meal was warm, but not hot. My meal was warm but the sauce was cold, as were the plates. The meal was returned to the kitchen and some 15 minutes later returned to me, the plate and the meal extremely overheated, so much so, it was impossible to place any food into your mouth, with out burning yourself, and consiquently had no flavour whatsoever, the vegetables certainly were not fresh, carrots and green beens brown on the edges. I refused to eat the food, and said I would not be paying for the meal. While my husband was eating his meal, the waitress spent her time running in and out from outside smoking a cigarette, then rattling plates on the next few tables setting up for the breakfast the following morning. A special evening totally ruined! Went across the road to the Golden Lion, obviously the place to eat, and had a lovely meal!

Heard this pub used to be a great place for drinking and eating after a hard days walking. However, we found the food to below average and the pub to be very quiet from what I used to remember. After talking to the locals, it seems that since new management came people tend to be in the pubs across the road (the lion and 3 tuns). Not recommended.
