The Peacock is a great atmospheric, cosy pub to chill out and have a beer in. Unfortunately, the food doesn't live up to the great expectation you have from the menu. I have been two times now and on the first occasion chose the lamb. Which like the other reviewer was full of bone, fat and was very tough. Like all british idiots I didn't complain. The second visit I ended up eating the seafood platter for two for a starter, which tasted good at the time. However, after the meal in the evening I started to feel sick/queasy and didn't feel right the next day either. I put it down to a bad fish. I chose the chicken and mozzarella wrapped in bacon as the main meal. The chicken was dry and chewy and should have been moist, there was hardly any mozzarella inside the chicken. Also, I'm not sure why chef's hardly want to cook vegetables any more. There is aldente and there is rock hard. The only saving grace was the chocolate fondue pudding which my husband and I shared, delicious. In fact both puddings we've had at The Peacock have been good. At £40 for two meals, and the meals not being any good and giving you an upset tummy, I do not rate the food at The Peacock. The menu looks flashy but the food doesn't live up to expectations. Not value for money.

This was my fourth visit to this restaurant and on previous visits I left with nothing but praise for the diversity of the menu and the quality of the food. However, on this visit I was extremely disapointed. I ordered lamb chops which of course have a large amount of bone but what was left was at least 30% fat and the rest was very tough. Although lamb is not the cheapest of meat I felt that at £11.95 I had not received anything like value for money. As is usual I was asked by the waitress if everything was all right with my meal but my honest (and polite) comments were met with indifference. When I paid my bill at the bar I repeated my comments hoping for a different reaction from a more senior person but again there was a total lack of interest. I would like to stress that I am not normally a complainer and merely wanted to draw attention to something that had turned me from a very satisfied customer into someone who would be wary of going there again.
