We were a little sceptical about visiting this Pub with friends who had recently moved to the Uckfield area when we read the previous review! However we were very pleasantly surprised and even began to wonder whether the review had been posted to the wrong establishment!
We found the Cock to be a very inviting, family run pub that offers a warm welcome and a great menu! We chose to eat in the restaurant area although the bar area looked very inviting with its open fire! Starters were delivered promptly by well trained and enthusiastic waiting staff. (The homemade Chicken Liver pate is to die for!) Main courses arrived promptly on piping hot plates and again the waiting staff were very attentive. For those with a sweet tooth, the homemade pear, chocolate and treacle sponge is a must! The atmosphere is just right with none of that piped background music or intrusive fruit machines! Nice touches in the ladies loos too with handcream etc. The only slight downside is the coffee which could be better as in so many pubs these days. All in all a great little pub and we'll certainly be going back again next time we visit the area!

We have been to the Cock or a few occasions previously and found it to be pleasant. As there were a number of us we booked in advance. We arrived at the pub, got a round of drinks in and went to our reserved table. We found the restaurant to be a bit overcrowded; they could have done with one fewer table in the restaurant. We were near the door leading to and from the kitchen; so on about 8 occasions out of 10, when the staff came past where I was sitting my chair was knocked (they have some broozed thighs I think). We ordered our starter and main course and after about 5 minutes a member of staff came to inform us they had run out of the starters some of us had ordered. We chose alternatives. After a further 15 to 20 minutes another member of staff came to the table to inform us they had run out of fish for fish and chips. Surely it would have been more professional to advise customers that they had run out of certain dishes (we arrived at 13:30, the restaurant opened at 12:30) when they were ordering rather that leaving it for 5 minutes and then a further 15 or so minutes. The starters arrived and were generally fine. Once finished and an alternative selection made, the main course arrived. I would describe the food as very ordinary and nothing to write home about. We decided not to have any deserts. Certainly not value for money. With this in mind I feel they would struggle to cope in summer with people in the garden wanting food. We will not be going there again. 4 out of 10.
