I just want to say that this must be the worst place that I have ever set foot in.We stayed at a hotel in Eastbourne and decided to drive through to Alfriston for the day- we had a lovely tea at one of the many tea-rooms and then lunch at The George. An awful experience from the food to the staff...

Stayed in Alfriston for the weekend, what a lovely village. Had lunch at The George, and really enjoyed it, and then dinner at The Tudor House, can't believe the previous review about it, although it was a few years ago they went there, must have new owners now. The food was delicious, and they couldn't do enough for us. All round great experience from the whole village. Worth a visit!!

Just spent a most enjoyable long weekend at the George Inn. I cannot understand the poor reviews made by other people. Lovely room including the massive bed, good food, wonderful breakfast, all the staff were pleasant and helpful (especially Laura), nice garden and good value - we will return!! As for the Tudor house - we ate there a few years ago and walked out - awfull. The Star Inn also is not the best.

Absolutely love this place! Beautiful village and the pub is likewise as lovely! All the staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating. The service and the way we were treated was better than any other place I have eaten. The food was delicious...thats all I can say! Will definately be back to this fabulous place when I am next in Sussex!

Happened upon this place whilst walking the South Downs - Superb! Enjoyed a super lunch, very friendly staff, just wished we had known about their rooms before we planned our walk - would have loved to stay there and enjoyed it for a bit longer.

We entered the pub with great anticipation, we left extremely disappointed. Food was adequate for the price but the service was beyond belief. It took 15 minutes to get a menu and another 15 to get served. We had to ask for the wine list, then we had to ask to order wine and then we had to go the bar to get the wine! They brought the bread to the table when we had all finished our soup - saying, sorry about that. IT got worse but I don't want to bore anyone. Needless to say - it was a mess. My advice to owners would be - do not leave these two incompetent boys in charge of what could be a magnificent restaurant instead of an almost complete shambles. Have been to the Wingrove before and had a perfectly pleasant dinner- will not stray again!

What a dreadful place! The Management is poor, staff never smile and the food is pathetically overpriced...We ate at the Wingrove House the previous day (in Alfriston) and can highly recommend this place over the AWFUL George Inn. New ownership is what this place needs...and Rowland needs to go as well..PLEASE! Oh, and why not try The Tudor next door, much better all round..

Went in to make a booking and was told it was residents only but we could try again later in the evening and if they weren’t busy we could make a booking then. Walked back up later (as no mobile reception in area) and as they were very quiet made a booking for 8pm - twenty minutes time as that was the latest they could do, so ran all the way back to the campsite picked my girlfriend up and both got ready in record time, got to the pub early and was told that they had change their minds and had closed the kitchen. Thought the staff were very mean. Went to the smuggler's instead witch was very nice.

Run by a real life Basil Fawlty! We have never ever met such an obnoxious man and he's obviously training his staff to be as bad as him. What a stupid way to run a business. We can't believe anyone would ever go back there and we hope the brewery sacks him. Take our advice and go elsewhere. Don't give this man the satisfaction of insulting you. He loves it.

Very disappointing. Beer was just OK, food was very expensive and just OK, service was poor. It's an expensive business driving to the country for lunch these days. I won't be returning to this pub.

I would like to agree with what some of the other reviewers have said- worst pub in Alfriston Village.I hope their customers will read this and never set their foot in there again. Food- expensive, atmosphere- good, service & staff- sulky and sour!I have been to the Star Inn/Smugglers and the Tudor House and they are much better a)value for money & b)friendly and more welcoming than the George Inn.

Extremely poor and disappointing Sunday lunch, underdone and small portion of veg, no roast potatoes or usual accompaniments. Don't expect yorkshire pud with your lamb - maybe we're just spoilt with our usual pub grub. Polite service though.

Love this place!! We stay every New Year and summer when we visit family locally. The food is excellent (especially when they do the lamb shank!) and the staff really friendly. Can't imagine what the other two people here are talking about. We're repeat visitors and always look forward to going back.

It was a day out that we were really enjoying until we had lunch at the George Pub in Alfriston. We were rudely greeted by a bar waitress & was given the cold shoulder from then on. The food was of a very poor standard and so was the service. An expensive pub in a gorgeous village. I am sorry we didn't try another eatery.

We did the circular walk from Eastbourne to Alfriston and stayed at the George Inn on Saturday night. The room, food and service were all superb. Alfriston itself is a picture perfect English village and we will definitely be recommending it and the George Inn to others.

It was the worst experience that my family & I have ever had- the manager, Rowland was SO rude & obnoxious & treated us like dirt. I will never set foot in this pub again nor will my family. The girls behind the bar are also very rude.
