My partner and I visited the Jolly Famer pub that evening. We were staying in Bramley to visit his 91 year old mother, who has dementia. The pub had a pleasant atmosphere,a lot of locals there. The young man who served us whist there was very pleasant and curteous. Sadly, my partner's mum persists in going off on the bus to various places in the early evenings. However, we discovered that she is visiting a pub down the road from the Jolly farmer that has a dubious reputation. She says she has a cappuchinno or pot of tea. We decided to encourage her to go into the Jolly Farmer for a coffee. We walked down to the Jolly Farmer mid afternoon the next day,1st September to show mum that she could go into the place through the side door avoiding the steps (on the advice of the wardens of her sheltered housing complex) We had not seen a ramp.On enquiring, the Complex Manager had not seen the ramp either As we approached the pub, I had an epileptic seizure. While my partner tried to get help and a drink of water, mum and I gingerly perched on the front wall. The pub has lovely flower arrangements, that we have admired every time we passed. We ensured that we did not disturb the flower bed on the wall. Then hell was unleased by a 4x4 containing a big woman driver - who, when driving out of the side carpark, aggressively leant across to the passenger seat window and shouted at us to 'get off my wall'. More upsetting was her obvious foul mutterings out of our hearing while she waited to exit the turning to get onto the main road. When the road was clear for her to pull out, she then stopped the car near us and shouted at us again.'Go sit on the table outside the pub' These were, to my knowledge from the night before, up three deep uneven steps. Unusually for me, as I was still recovering from a horrible turn, I batted her comment away with a throw away remark like'Oh shut up, get a life'. She drove away a short distance then reversed back to say'get of my wall, I planted those...flowers'. I repeated that we were not hurting them. Also, that mum, who uses a frame could not get up steps, as nor could I. She then fiercely pointed to an area that showed the ramp further along-out of our vision. I attempted to ignore her as she drove away. Again, she reversed back, pointed her finger at me and shouted'If there weren't cars behind I would....' I didn't hear rest but was thankful that the traffic behind forced her to move on. I still feared that she was going to turn around and come back and physically attack me. There was no concern as to why we were sitting on this narrow ledge! Mum and I shakily got up,examined the shrubbery and noted that not one leaf or petal was disturbed. I would have summised that the woman- an assistant manager sources have informed me- was having a bad day. Since reading other reviews, this behaviour is obviously the norm. It gave me a real jolt since folk of bramley have shown us nothing but kindness. I did not think such ugliness existed in Bramley! Needless to say, we will steer very clear of this Public House. Any farmers embibing in this hostelry would certainly not leave feeling very jolly! We will not discourage mum from her occasional visit to the pub down the road as they seem to know how to treat people like her and us with civility. So,my advice to all is to walk or drive right past this public unfriendly house. At least when she is on duty! AND, NEVER,NEVER,NEVER sit on the wall.(even if you were dying as there is no charity residing here!!! It totally spoilt a pleasant visit. We will stick to the Hollyhocks in Bramley in future.

We live locally to The Jolly Farmer at Bramley and have visited reasonably often, have always thought the food was very average and that the owners and staff really resented you taking up space in "their" pub. Having struggled to get the attention of the bar staff, eventually got served (turned out to be the manager that evening) whilst she continued a conversation with other customers. Asking what red wines were available, i was instructed to go around the other side of the bar and read the chalk board list, having done so and made the choice I was then asked "what ones that?". Ordered food, once again from the blackboard positioned in the busiest passageway in the pub. ordered a burger, duck breast, chicken, fish and chips and lamb tagine. Having received our food we had to ask for the help of the server as the duck was over cooked and yet warm at best, cold at worst. In my opinion duck breast is best served pink (we weren't asked, but assumed....our fault) we were told that was the way the duck was served and if we ask for it to be re-cooked it will come exactly the sale way, and so will the luke warm sauce. The burger was cooked to a crisp, reminiscent of card board, we were informed it was against rules to cook a burger medium and they would be closed down if they cooked it medium rare, again we had no choice....a burger that tastes and has the consistency of cardboard or nothing at all. the fish was a little dry, but Ok, the chicken was reasobale, as was the tagine. the staff refused to cange the food and until a considerable fuss was kicked up refused any kind of compensation. Eventually they disenfranchised this customer so much that I insisted on a cash refund of the money we had paid for our food. The cash was thrown down on the table, without a word of apology or reasoning. Asked where the owner was i was informed that he was out and tthat the original person that had ignored me at the bar was the manager for the evening. Finally, please update the pub, removed the stuffed dirty animals and for pete's sake take the yellow nicotine stained beer mats from the 60's and 70's off the ceiling........not going back, although I am sure the feeling is mutual.

Nice beer, shame about the bar staff. I still can't understand what everyone raves about with the food. The menu hasn't changed in months, not quite a Gastro pub. I noticed the awards were dated in 2003, obviously since then standards have slipped. Rude staff, rude manager and very boring food. I have eaten there three times now and each time I have been disappointed. On one occasion I ordered the Ploughman's meal, which I have to say was awful, the ham was extremely fatty and the whole dish was uninviting. I have just moved into Bramley and I'm sorry to say The Jolly Farmer will not be my local. Its a shame, I was really looking forward to having a nice FRIENDLY local pub, but instead. The Jolly Farmer has only provided me with bad food, bad service and grumpy staff. If I wanted that sort of pub I would go to Yates.
