Called in to this pub after being told it was open again. It's been closed since jan this year and has now got an experienced family running it. Had a Sunday roast of beef and all the trimmings. Really good, home made yorkshires, tender meat and very good value. They have a voucher that I had of 2 glasses of wine gets you another large glass free. Lovely log burner making it cosy and nice polite staff and lovely young landlady. I'll be back soon. Well done.

Went to pub for Sunday lunch today with our 4 month old baby. Extremely attentive staff, lovely food , we had belly of pork which was delicious! The lemon roulade dessert was lovely. I was particularly impressed with the baby changing facilities in the toilet . Overall we had such a nice experience we shall definitely return again .

We just had a beautiful lunch in this pub in glorious gardens, the music piped into the garden was relaxing and the welcome and service was A1. Presentation of the food was spot on, we had warm baggetts with prawns at £6. Desserts were gorgeous and we could have stayed all day. will def' be taking a trip back

Visited the Trowel and Hammer yesterday and today and i'm really glad I did. As I understand, the pub is under relatively new management and has had a full revamp which looks really inviting. The atmosphere was great with decor to match and the staff were more than happy to help and accommodate us. The food service was swift with beautiful presentation and priced very competitively. it tasted exceptional and we were more than happy which is why (although we live quite a way away) we will be returning. Well done to all the staff and everyone involved in making this pub and restaurant work so well. A real Winner!!

Appalling service. We arrived at the bar and were hoping to order drinks and a meal to eat in the garden. There were at least three members of staff who completely ignored us for a good five minutes despite there being nobody else there. I'm pretty sure one was the manager, and there was a barmaid and a chef too. My two year old started crying after a while and still we were blanked. I'd only phoned a few minutes before to confirm they were serving food and had a childrens menu. We don't intend to go back there again. It was a completely bizarre experience, nothing like any pub I've ever been to.

For the past two years a small group of friends from our village drama group have booked this venue for Sunday lunch following the clean-up after our annual pantomime and the roast of the day was always freshly cooked and the meat from local butchers. Sadly things have changed in the last year. Firstly, despite booking two weeks earlier, confirming at the beginning of the second week, then making one further adjustment to numbers the previous day - they had no record of our booking for 17 people! Not a number you would think they would overlook. It then began to be evident that there were no prawns, no steak and kidney puddings (on the specials board)and only two sticky toffee puddings. The roast pork was pre-sliced and warmed up in instant 'gravy' and there was no apple sauce offered. There was a dessert called toffee and chocolate crunch, which was a sloppy mousse. The rest of the food was mediocre and not homemade. All in all a very disappointing visit.
